Job Summary

The Assistant Accountant will manage day-to-day financial transactions, general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, and statutory tax compliance under Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) regulations. The candidate will ensure accuracy in financial records and support audits, financial planning, and forecasting.

Key Responsibilities

  • General Ledger & Data Entry: Process, maintain, and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accurate data entry of transactions in accounting software.
  • Payables & Receivables: Process and maintain accurate records of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and company expenses.
  • Payroll & Statutory Deductions: Assist in payroll processing and ensure timely remittance of statutory deductions (NHIF, NSSF, PAYE).
  • Taxation & Compliance: Prepare and submit statutory tax returns (VAT, PAYE, Corporate Tax) as per Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) regulations.
  • Audit & Planning Support: Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, and assist with financial planning and forecasting.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience & Knowledge: Proven experience in accounting with a deep understanding of standard accounting principles and Kenyan financial and tax regulations.
  • Technical Competencies: Strong proficiency in accounting software, data entry, tax return filings (iTax), and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Core Skills: Detail-oriented mindset, strong analytical skills, keen eye for accuracy, and ability to manage statutory submission timelines.
