Serving as the right-hand finance professional to the Factory Manager, this role leads financial operations from raw material sourcing through processing to the final product.

Job Summary

The Senior Accountant will oversee financial operations, cost accounting, inventory tracking, working capital management, and statutory tax compliance for a processing facility. Operating in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, the position is responsible for establishing cost accounting frameworks for raw materials, labor, and overheads, while implementing ERP workflows and tracking plant profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare monthly financial reports, lead bank reconciliations, verify supplier payments, maintain cash flow forecasts, and build presentations for management and investors.
  • Inventory & Cost Management: Monitor daily inventory movements across raw materials, packaging, and finished goods; analyze production variances; and establish stock reconciliation frameworks to minimize wastage.
  • Working Capital & Accounts Control: Optimize working capital, manage accounts payable/receivable, establish cost accounting systems, and maintain strong vendor/supplier relationships.
  • Budgeting, ERP & Internal Controls: Develop annual budgets with department heads, implement internal controls and SOPs, drive ERP system integration (SAP/QuickBooks), and train junior finance personnel.
  • Taxation & Statutory Compliance: Oversee statutory report preparations and filings, including VAT, Income Tax, Excise Duty, and KRA compliance requirements.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Certifications: CPA (K) or ACCA certification is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within manufacturing (fresh produce), FMCG, or agro-processing startups.
  • Technical Expertise: Proven expertise in stock reconciliation, cost accounting, inventory control, and ERP/accounting software (SAP, QuickBooks, or similar platforms).
  • Core Competencies: Advanced Excel proficiency, strong analytical abilities, leadership skills, and experience managing cross-functional stakeholder relationships.
