Role Summary

The Accountant will support the development, implementation, and maintenance of departmental accounting systems, policies, and procedures. The role ensures accurate financial record-keeping and the integrity of financial information through effective processing, verification, and reconciliation of financial data.

Key objectives include:

  • Collecting, processing, recording, and reconciling financial transactions
  • Verifying the accuracy and validity of source documentation
  • Maintaining comprehensive records of revenue, expenditure, assets, and liabilities

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Accountant, preferably in a school or educational environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance
  • Professional certification such as CPA or ACCA

Key Responsibilities

1. Ledger Management and Banking

  • Maintain accounts to trial balance level and submit quarterly reports to the Accounts Manager
  • Manage revenue and purchase ledgers, including invoicing and timely payment follow-ups
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations
  • Oversee weekly banking of cash and cheques

2. Cashflow and Payroll Management

  • Prepare and update cash flow forecasts and budgets within agreed timelines
  • Process payroll accurately, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, pension schemes, and PAYE regulations

3. Compliance, Reporting, and Auditing

  • Assist in preparing draft accounts and quarterly VAT returns
  • Liaise with external auditors and follow up on audit findings and management letters
  • Support statutory reporting and internal/external audit processes

Professional Competencies and Attributes

  • Strong knowledge of finance, budgeting, cost control, and GAAP
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills with cultural awareness and teamwork mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
