Job Purpose & Responsibilities

The Accountant for Import & Export Operations will handle financial workflows specifically tailored to international trade, customs documentation, freight costings, and inventory accounting. Key responsibilities include:

  • Trade & Logistics Accounting: Manage financial entries for shipping costs, customs duties, clearing and forwarding fees, tariffs, and demurrage charges.
  • Invoicing & Reconciliations: Process vendor and supplier invoices, handle freight reconciliations, and verify shipping documentation against financial ledgers.
  • Financial Reporting & Cost Control: Prepare periodic financial statements, monitor trade operational expenditures, and track cost variances related to import and export cycles.
  • Tax & Compliance: Ensure accurate tax computations, including VAT on imports and withholding taxes, maintaining compliance with national tax regulations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Professional Qualifications: Professional accounting certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is an added advantage.
  • Experience: Proven experience in corporate accounting, with specific background in logistics, clearing and forwarding, or import/export operations.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (advanced Excel) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) or modern accounting software.
