Job Summary

The Chief Accountant is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the Company's financial records, statutory compliance, treasury management, financial reporting, inventory accounting, and working capital management. The role supports the Head of Finance in delivering accurate financial information, safeguarding company assets, strengthening internal controls, ensuring statutory compliance, and driving continuous improvement across the finance function.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, annual financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, gross margin analysis, and management commentary in accordance with IFRS.
  • Treasury and Cash Flow Management: Monitor daily bank balances, manage transfers between bank accounts, perform monthly reconciliations of local and foreign currency accounts, and support financing activities.
  • Accounts Receivable & Payable Management: Monitor the AR ledger, customer credit limits, ageing, and bad debt provisions; review supplier reconciliations, payment requests, and ensure timely settlement of supplier obligations.
  • Payroll & Inventory Accounting: Process payroll journals and statutory remittances; prepare import product costing, manage Goods in Transit (GIT), conduct periodic stock counts, and monitor product expiry.
  • Branch & Principal Accounting: Review monthly branch reconciliations and intercompany balances with principal companies.
  • Tax and Statutory Compliance: Prepare tax schedules supporting VAT, PAYE, SDL, WHT, and Corporate Income Tax returns, ensuring timely filing and supporting TRA audits.
  • Internal Controls & Audit: Strengthen internal controls, develop finance policies, coordinate internal/external audits, and supervise finance staff.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounts and Finance/Commerce.
  • Experience: Six (6) years of progressive experience, preferably in a large or reputable organization or audit firm.
  • Professional Certification: Professional qualification such as CPA/ACCA/CIMA/CA is a distinct advantage.
  • Skills: Thorough knowledge of IFRS, advanced Excel skills, familiarity with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, or Ebizframe), strong communication skills, and high integrity.
