Job Summary

The Trade Finance Manager is responsible for driving, structuring, and managing the bank's trade finance portfolio, with a specific focus on off-balance-sheet contingent liabilities on approved sectors. The role entails generating non-funded income, supporting sales strategies, reviewing trade finance products, and ensuring full compliance with internal and regulatory procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Portfolio & Sales Management: Drive and structure the bank's trade finance portfolio specializing in off-balance-sheet contingent liabilities. Generate non-funded income for all off-balance sheet items. Support the Business Team (BM, RM, ROs) in planning, implementing, and controlling sales strategies to maximize new and repeat sales.
  • Transaction Processing & Risk: Review and process trade finance transactions such as Export Letters of Credit, Import Letters of Credit, Documentary Collection, Bills Avalisation, Guarantees, Standby Letters of Credit, and Trade Loans. Manage operational and reputational risk to ensure full compliance with Bank of Africa procedures.
  • Governance & Branch Support: Prepare and analyze credit applications for presentation to the credit department. Develop and implement Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with internal units to improve turnaround times. Manage regional trade finance activities, group syndication files, and cross-border transactions.

Technical Know-How & Requirements

  • Education: A relevant degree or Advanced Diploma in Finance, Marketing, Commerce, or Banking; a Master’s Degree is an added advantage.
  • Experience & Training: Additional training in Trade Finance is a plus, accompanied by a solid understanding of general banking operations.
  • Technical Competencies: Mastery of techniques, procedures, and processes in foreign and international trade operations. Excellent analysis, sales techniques, interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Personal Attributes: Risk sense, profitability consciousness, high level of integrity, initiative spirit, and strong negotiation abilities.
