Job Summary

The Grants Accountant monitors the financial progress of research and programmatic grants by preparing grant budgets and developing grant financial reports according to funding agency guidelines. The role works closely with the Grants Manager and research teams to ensure financial compliance, support audits, and manage grant accounting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Budgeting: Prepare internal grant reports for Principal Investigators, draft donor reports accurately and on time, prepare invoices and payment requests, and reconcile grant expenses.
  • Compliance & Sub-recipient Monitoring: Ensure donor compliance requirements are met, review sub-recipient budgets and reimbursement requests, and verify that expenditures adhere to policies.
  • Requisitions & Ledgers: Review departmental requisitions to ensure spending stays within approved budgets, pass journal entries in the ledger, and review grant trial balances.
  • Audits & Record Keeping: Facilitate internal and external grant financial audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations, and maintain efficient electronic and paper filing systems.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance.
  • Professional Qualifications: CPA-K or ACCA qualifications.
  • Experience: 2 to 3 years of professional experience in finance and accounting, with prior experience in a granting agency serving as an added advantage.
  • Skills: Excellent command of MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
