Job Summary

The Country Accountant will support Rentokil Initial’s East Africa operations in Dar es Salaam by managing general ledger accounts, trial balances, month-end/year-end closures, local bank reconciliations, and vendor payables/receivables. The role serves as the focal point for TRA tax compliance, statutory payroll filings (NSSF, WCF, SDL), NBAA audit governance, rolling cash flow forecasting, and inventory controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Operations & Ledger Management: Manage general ledger accounts in accordance with IFRS, maintain balance sheet reconciliations, oversee AP/AR credit control, perform bank reconciliations, and check petty cash claims.
  • Tax Compliance & Statutory Filings: Ensure complete compliance with Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) regulations, preparing/filing VAT via EFD/VFD systems, WHT, PAYE, as well as NSSF, WCF, and SDL returns.
  • External Audit & Local Governance: Serve as the main focal point for annual external audits, preparing comprehensive schedules and resolving queries to ensure NBAA compliance and clean audit reports.
  • Cash Flow, Treasury & Stock Control: Prepare rolling cash flow forecasts, manage TZS/USD foreign exchange exposure under Bank of Tanzania (BOT) regulations, monitor working capital, and handle inventory/import customs documentation.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Professional Qualifications: CPA (Tanzania) qualification and active registration with the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) (CPPP or CPA).
  • Experience: 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience in Tanzania across multinational corporate environments or top-tier audit/tax firms.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong practical knowledge of Tanzanian tax laws, TRA electronic platforms (EFD/VFD), and ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP, NetSuite, or QuickBooks).
  • Languages: Professional fluency in English and Swahili (written and spoken).
