Job Summary

The Junior Accountant will maintain accurate financial records, process and reconcile high-volume financial transactions, assist with month-end reporting, and ensure strict compliance with South African accounting standards and SARS tax/VAT regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creditors & Invoicing: Capture supplier invoices and credit notes against purchase orders and delivery records; reconcile supplier statements to creditors ledgers and prepare payment schedules.
  • Reconciliations & POS: Perform month-end bank, supplier, customer, and general ledger reconciliations; manage point-of-sale (POS) reconciliations for hospitality outlets.
  • Month-End & Audit Support: Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules for month-end financial reporting; assist with internal/external audit preparation and maintain organized accounting files.
  • Queries & Communication: Liaise with outlets, stores, internal departments, and vendors to resolve account queries and manage verified supplier banking changes.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Financial Accounting, or a related field (Postgraduate Hons/Masters degree is advantageous).
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant financial accounting experience.
  • Taxation & POS Knowledge: Expert knowledge of South African Tax and VAT legislation; demonstrated exposure to point-of-sale reconciliations and high-volume transaction processing.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software systems.
  • Core Competencies: Strong understanding of basic accounting principles, reconciliation accuracy, problem-solving, and effective query resolution.
