Job Summary
The Junior Accountant will support routine bookkeeping, supplier and expense processing, financial record maintenance, statutory filing coordination, and general finance administration for the Zanzibar operations. The candidate will handle routine transactions independently while ensuring high-value or sensitive matters are escalated to the management team.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Transactions & Bookkeeping: Process daily transactions (supplier invoices, receipts, payment requests) and maintain accurate physical/digital financial records.
- Cash & Bank Management: Manage petty cash reconciliations and support monthly bank reconciliations.
- Payroll & Expenses: Assist HR with payroll inputs (working hours, leave, allowances) and process, verify, and maintain employee expense claims.
- Month-End & Assets: Support month-end closing activities (journal entries, accruals, reconciliations) and maintain the fixed asset register for office and operational equipment.
- Taxation & Compliance: Assist with VAT/withholding tax documentation, liaise with statutory authorities for routine filings, and collect documentation for audits.
- Procurement Support: Source quotations, prepare purchase requests, and track deliveries for office/site requirements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in bookkeeping, junior accounting, or finance administration (1–3 years preferred). Experience working in Tanzania and familiarity with Zanzibar's tax and statutory filing environment is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Exposure to accounting software (QuickBooks, Zoho Books, Sage) and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Language & Communication: Fluent in both English and Swahili with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Core Competencies: High level of integrity, strong numerical accuracy, ability to work under a remote reporting structure, and sound judgment when handling confidential data.
