Job Summary

As an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, GIZ supports the German Government in achieving its development-policy objectives. GIZ Tanzania is seeking national personnel to support the finance team of its Service Unit in Tanzania, handling financial contracts, administrative functions, budgeting, and project accounting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Finance Management:
    • Advise project managers and technical teams on financial and administrative issues, including management of contracts, financing, compliance, value-for-money, and financial planning and monitoring.
    • Support existing projects with budget planning and cost/expenditure monitoring using SAP (S/4HANA) and MS-Excel.
    • Prepare budgets and project calculations for upcoming projects and during change offers for existing projects.
    • Prepare annual financial reports for funders in line with funder requirements using SAP and MS-Excel, and handle requests from co-financing donors.
    • Support internal and external controls/audits, contract monitoring, contract/receivable clearing, closing projects from a finance perspective, and filing relevant project documents.
    • Quality assessment of administrative functions and regular exchange with HoSu and other Finance Managers of the Service Unit to harmonize/standardize processes.
    • Provide financial information to the Head of Service Unit (HoSu) related to requests or on a pre-scheduled basis on time.
    • Close exchange with other finance managers in Tanzania and other countries of East Africa.
  • Financial Contracts:
    • Monitor fund flow related to financing arrangements, ensure timely receipt of accountability for financing arrangements, and make sure audits are initiated and carried out in time.
    • Coordinate with GIZ Head Office to solve issues related to international contracts and financing & grant agreements, if necessary.
  • Other Contracts:
    • Contract monitoring (i.e., monitoring of expenditures) for service contracts and making sure contracts are extended on time, if needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: University degree in business administration or a comparable qualification.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of job experience from an audit company, a bank, or from working in the controlling unit of an international company.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft products, especially MS-Excel.
    • Experience with an ERP system; SAP S/4HANA is a plus.
    • Strong attention to details and organizational skills.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Languages: Fluent in Swahili and English; knowledge of German is a plus.
