Job Purpose & Responsibilities

The Head of Internal Audit is responsible for keeping internal audit relevant through quality assurance services aligned with business objectives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Reporting & Governance: Ensure appropriate reporting of internal audit assurance and insights quarterly to the Board Audit & Risk Committee and senior management, and prepare executive reports and presentations.
  • Audit Planning & Implementation: Prepare the Risk Based Internal Audit Annual Plan (RBIAAP) in line with the International Professional Practice Framework (IPPF), and supervise branch risk-based, process, information system, and surprise audits.
  • Compliance & Advisory: Prepare biannual regulatory and donor compliance reports, conduct internal control training, review policies, procedures, and circulars, and perform investigations without compromising independence.
  • Capacity Building & Supervision: Improve the knowledge base of internal staff through planned career development and training, supervise asset verification, and follow up on audit recommendations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Master’s degree in accounting, business, public administration, economics, management, or a closely related field to the agency’s service sector.
  • Professional Certifications: Relevant professional qualifications such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
  • Knowledge & Experience: Extensive knowledge of professional audit standards and experience working with the Risk Based Internal Audit Annual Plan (RBIAAP) in line with the International Professional Practice Framework (IPPF).
